What is a super food? Simply put super foods are foods that are scientifically proven to contain special properties when harvested and processed properly and ingested in adequate quantities it provides humans with elements that enhance human life.

Processing with the use of heat usually destroys the goodies so look look for cold press or cold processes of extractions verses heat one exception is tomatoes for when tomatoes are cooked the goodies are actually doubled meaning the raw tomato daily requirement of 15 (10 cm) tomatoes is actually reduced to 7. So enjoy your tomato juice, ketchup and pastas sauces but watch the sugar content of these.

Is Avocado a Super Food?

The Avocado is credited with many healthy benefits and is recommended as part of a  diet based on 5 to 11 servings per day of a diverse selection of fruits and vegetables.

Avocado's lutein (in the green collar) can help protect against various forms of cancer, including prostate cancer it is an excellent dietary source of glutathione and phytosterol as well as antioxidants (in the green collar) that are beneficial. .  

It is the highest fruit source of vitamin E and excellent source of monounsaturated (omega 9 fat) which is known to lower cholesterol levels. A final argument is avocados contain no starch and very little sugar.

The studies of  Dr David herbert UCLA   have shown that eating a burger alone decreases blood vessel flexibility by 27% and eating the same burger with 1/2 an avocado resulted in a 4% flexibility loss. 

Does this make Avocado a super food?  We think so.


Cinnamon - Is it a Super Food?

We feel it may well be a Super Food but we believe it needs more research to confirm its true beneficial attributes.

Research - Skovda University -  Dr Joanna Lubavitch - when eaten with a carbohydrate there is a measurably lower sugar spike and you feel less hungry.  Carbohydrates are turned into glucose by the body and the glucose is absorbed by insulin. Cinnamon is thought to enable our cells to absorb more carbohydrate and prevent sugar spikes. 3 gms (1 teaspoon) per day is a suggested maximum per day due to the chemical coumarin in cinnamon that is harmful the liver.

Modern research indicates that cinnamon may have some beneficial health properties. Having said that, it is important to recognize that more research and evidence is needed before we can say conclusively that cinnamon has these health benefits.
