This year Chef LeeZ is asking you to do your part in reducing the holiday season's environmental impact on our planet and we are asking you to ask everyone you know to do the same.
Some startling facts of the environmental impact of Christmas celebrations can be found here and talks aboout such things as: In the U.K. Alone- people travel 6 billion miles to see families and friends producing 150 million miles worth carbon emissions.
- Christmas cards purchased in the U.K. placed alongside each other would cover the world’s circumference 500 times.
- While boycotting palm oil use ... the U.K. cuts down 8 million trees for their households.
Just imagine if they factored in North America what these numbers would be?
This website gives 21 suggestions on how you can help reduce the holiday Season environmental impact. Some of these are:
- Trees - Rent a tree or grow one.
- Food - Cut back on the meat and do more vegan food.
- Gift wrapping - go green like useing a scarf for wrapping. Paper waste over the Christmas period is equivalent to 5-12 million litres of biofuel – enough to power a bus to go to the moon 20 times.
- Cards- use e-cards . estimates are 1.5 billion paper xmas cards are tossed each xmas.
- Decorations - create your own edible decorations and use brown paper and string for wraping.
There many ways you can help reduce the environmental impact of the holiday season. You can start by telling everyone you know what you are doing about the Holiday Seasons environmental impact and ask that they too do something as well. May we suggest you begin by sharing this earth saving message.
We look forward to seeing you in a refresher cooking class the next time you are in BKK. May your holiday season be a safe and healthy one!
