Much of the World puts aside a specific date annually to honor all mothers. Thai natives by their culture consider their current QUEEN as their mother. Thus Thailand's Mother's Day is the current ruling queen's birthdate. People celebrate her birthday in great numbers gathering by the 100's of thousands as depicted in this picture.
What day do you think is Father's Day? If you thought the king's birthday is Thailand's father's day you'd be correct.

COVID-19 infections TRIPLES following Thai New Years

Thailand new years - SONGKRAN - is a 3 day midweek statutory holiday that is extended into both weekends either side of the New Years dates making it a 10 day vacation.
It is Thai culture to be extremely close to family. Songkran is an annual event where perhaps half of BKK's population 7 million people leave Bangkok and go in every direction to every part of Thailand and beyond and visit family and friends. Returning to BKK the weekend following their New Years celebrations.
Prior to Songkran Thailand had near 1000 COVID19 infected. Now 1 week following the return of the people to BKK the COVID-19 infected has tripled and is now over 3,000 infected and rising by near 300 new infections daily!
